The careful restoration, by the architect Ettore Mocchetti, (architect and director of Condé Nast Italia’s “Traveller” and “AD” magazines) and the entrepreneur Nicola Benedetto, has used local materials and workers to retain its identity and charm. Located in the Matera hills, in the area of the tuff quarries, Alvino Relais is the most prestigious place in the city. It is loved by tourists and travelers who come to Matera to immerse themselves in a timeless place. It offers the majesty of a late 19th century building, an industrial architecture proud of its past, and is surrounded by centuries old gnarled olive trees and the warm mediterranean colours of the local tuff stone.
